I've gotten a few requests for the lyrics to this song this last week, and decided I would put them up for you all!
This song always makes me smile, because it reminds me of a time in my life that I hold very dear and close to my my heart. When I was younger, my sister Liz (Over at Buckaroo Barbie!) would let me come out to NV from CA and live with her.
I got to day-work a lot, I rode a lot of different horses, got knocked around a little bit...and loved every second of it. It was also the time in my life where I first thought about riding broncs, when I found a flyer for the Silver State Stampede Old West Bronc Riding....but that's another story for another time! ;)
Liz had been working for a guy out of Clover Valley, outside of Wells Nevada, and living in a trailer at a camp that I still draw inspiration from for writing. I was out "visiting", which meant my folks didn't know what to do with a 15 year old blonde girl who missed her sister and wanted to ride broncs. This was also the time where I was writing like a house of fire. Highway 80 had just been released, and I was still reeling from what had just happened and how my life was changing from the CD.
I remember the morning I got the idea for the song, a chilly, pretty, rose colored day when my pony felt a lil froggy. I was dying to impress my best friend and big sissy who was in my mind-a goddess full of raw talent and goodness in cowboy boots....I so badly wanted to be like her, that most of the time I messed up because I was so nervous ABOUT messing up!
We trotted out giggling a little, and talking most likely if I remember,19 to a dozen....ok, so maybe it was just me talking...or singing...I don't honestly remember....I'm sure Liz was quiet and I was driving her crazy-I do that well :)
ANYWAY.... (I know...I talk a lot even when I'm writing, amazing!)
A lil ways down the powder dust coated road, one of those cute/big/fluffy jack rabbit's darted across the track and threw himself into the sagebrush.
Of course, my big yellow horse freaked, forgot, and then chilled out.
Lizzy's pony didn't.
I won't lie, I laughed and cheered when that horse bucked off into the brush with her. Of course she rode him, and really well to boot.
But what I still remember to this day, was her flying off into the brush on that broncy horse with her bright blonde hair-red lips-and painted red fingernails all grabbing leather and riding hell.
When we rode back to the camper that night-I sat down and wrote "Red Lipped Bronc Stomper", and to this day it is still one of my favorites, because at the end of the day, it is saying who I am. What I am and why, inspired by the girl that helped shape who I am today, the original Red Lipped Bronc Stomper, My big sissy Liz.
Love you bud, thanks for always inspiring my writing heart.
xoxo

Red Lipped Bronc Stomper
Lyrics & Music: Adrian
Album: Buckaroogirl
Twisting
and turning
Jumping
and kicking this dainty girl the bronc couldn’t budge
With
her gold hair flying and her painted lips smiling
She
cried
Come
on boys
Is
this all you’ve got
Bring
it on
Cause
I’m a red lipped bronc stomping son of a gun
Pushing
all you
Buckaroo
boys around
City
girls aint got nothing on me
I
hail from a rolling rough sagebrush sea
Look
out girls
I’m a
coming to town
Better
keep those buckaroo boys
Close
at hand
And
daddy raised me to be a lady
And I
sure as hell am
But
get this now this Nevada chick could outwork any of your rodeo men
Just
send em on by
And
why
Cause
I’m a red lipped bronc stomping son of a gun
Cause
I’m a red lipped bronc stomping son of a gun
Pushing
all you
Buckaroo
boys around
City
gals aint got nothing on me
Yeah
I hail from a rolling rough sagebrush sea
Look
out girls
I’m a
coming to town
Better
keep those buckaroo boys
Close
at hand
And
they say a tiny little thing like you couldn’t stay on that big old mean horse
But
they all try and take it back when I outride them cowboys
Cause
I day work
With
painted nails
And
ribbons in my hair
And
if that bothers you poetry people do I look like the kinda girl that’d care
No no
no
Cause
I’m a red lipped bronc stomping son of a gun and I’m
Coming
to town
Thanks so much for sharing Adrian! Love the post & Liz, you are stunning! Much Love, Mindy

ReplyDeleteThis is my favorite song! I was recently diagnosed with breast cancer and as I am going through my treatments it has taken on new meaning to me and has become my theme song for fighting cancer.
ReplyDelete"She cried
Come on boys
