That feeling of summer, that feeling of hope....

That feeling of Nevada
Waking up dusty and dirty still from the night before
Waking up in McDermitt smiling
Pulling on denim cut-off cruel girls
Sliding on cool cowboy boots with no socks

Hot coffee sliding over my tanned tiny paws
Burning and reminding me that I am still alive
Smell of summer heated sage
And the white powdered dashboard
Laying my melting make-up out
And abandoning it for lost
Realizing that sunburn is the best make-up I could have

Smile smile he front footed her in nothing flat
Cheer and take pictures while he acts embarrassed
Proud in reality of his win
Images of grandeur and custom trophy saddles
Dancing across the high desert afternoon

Breakfast and Bloody Mary’s
Say when
And walking back with stickers on the side of the road
Grabbing at every move made
Sticky sweetness and love
Twirling into a dance on the street
Giggles uncontrollable at the 20 year old silliness

Girlfriends arms clutched in happiness
Knowing this moment won’t last
Can’t last
Forever
Convince yourself it is for the best on the drive back to camp
Tires need to be rotated
Fires put out at home
Water changed
And those cows pushed back to the BLM ground

Flower in your hair and a sweet tea
Until the cracked and broken blacktop is reached
The McDermitt summer lingers
In your smile and fading sunburn
