Monday blues and women who looked like women…

Hello loves!

Today I woke up with a ROTTEN cold. If you’re a performer of any kind or singer/musician, you know that this is one of the most FRUSTRATING things that can happen right before a few months worth of non-stop shows every weekend….

So! I am armed with hot chamomile tea, green tea, more vitamins than I even usually take, a giant pillow and all the computer work I can get done so that I’m resting instead of getting sicker….What are your great tips for getting over a cold quickly? I’m ready to try whatever!

Because I’ve been trying to rest (TRYING…I don’t slow down well!) It means I’ve turned on some of my favorite old films while working (oops, I mean resting!)
I love anything from the 30’s, 40’s and 50’s, and watching them got me to thinking about a conversation I had this weekend about dressing like a women nowadays.

I was raised by a pair of parents that believed that my sister and I could do anything we wanted to and set our minds to as women, but we were also raised to know that we ARE women and to act and look that way. I’m a total girly-girl, I’ve never actually out-grown my love of the color pink, and even if I’ve been working outside all day long and am a mess and dirty-I’m going to come back to my camp/home/tipi and get cleaned up-which usually involves putting on a dress!

However, it didn’t used to always be this way…I used to be a total tomboy. I mean I lived in wranglers and moccasins with a huge old cowboy hat of my dads. I would refuse to brush my hair because I thought it was too girly. I hated the idea of make-up, until my sister force-painted my face. Mostly I didn’t like that the “style” was that was expected of me to channel, it wasn’t who I was or what I wanted to portray. I think you guys get the point that I was not exactly the worlds most girly-girl…..

Then I realized something. I didn’t HAVE to be like everyone else. I could do my own thing. I realized that “fashion” comes and goes, but STYLE is all your own. And my style has become something very different than what I guess is “popular”. I love it that way! Vintage, Retro, old fashioned…whatever you want to call it-My style is a little different. Part of why I love it so much is because I feel like such a WOMAN. These are clothes that show you’re a girl but not in a trashy way, something totally unique and most of the time-if you’re wearing an original vintage piece- something with a story…and I love stories!

I love feeling like a WOMAN, and one of my biggest style icons from those times is of course-Marilyn! Today is the anniversary of her death in 1962, and although her life in so many ways was so tragic-I like to focus on the incredible style and charisma she had.

It always seems like the clothes from those time periods were more “womanly” to me. More curve-inducing, swagger-creating and red-lipstick-rockin….I just chose that to be my style!

No matter what the current fashion is, what is your STYLE?
Who you are, what you love and how you show that to the world through your dress is true STYLE to me….

xoxo

  1. Absolutely Adrian!!! I love that era also. Although the red lipstick is awesome on you...doesn't work for me. Nothing is better than when I go out in my prada heels, LV handbag, Hermes Caleche parfume and grab a big martini!!! Hope you feel better soon!!

  2. When I first met my wife, she had a lousy cold. I recommended a good friend's scandanavian remedy:

    1. A clove of garlic - chopped.
    2. Half a lemon - squeezed.
    3. A tablespoon of honey...

All combined in a shot of good vodka.

After taking the shot, wrap up in a good warm blanket, and sweat it out.

I don't know if the cold was cured, but we've been married for seven years.

Ladies are classy, not matter how they are dressed, in my opinion....you used to be on the Ranch Country board, I remember you from there... there is now a Ranch Country page on Facebook, if your interested...
