Shopping in a museum...

Today I had a date.

The best date I think I can honestly say I've had in a long time, because it was with one of the most handsome and sweet men in the world....of course I'm talking abut my daddy.

We went and sniffed around a fantastic estate auction that contained Visalia goodies, silver engraved treats, old Dodge trucks from the 20's, first edition books and reata's and paintings you would give your left foot for. I basically lusted after everything the entire time and papa went behind me wiping drool off flower carved saddles and the Dalton Gang's shotgun that were displayed.

I always say how disappointed I am that you cannot SHOP in a museum! Everything that I usually want is encased in glass at The Gilcrease, and most of the time I understand they frown on that sort of thing....

Today however I was able to finger the fringe on a reservation period Souix dress, gaze at a woven blanket covered in rolling logs and run my hands over an early pair of Visalia chaps....I was in heaven.

I realized that I am more at home among these things, these old and seemingly worn out things of the past than I am the things of today. I'm not sure if that is "good" or "bad". Right or wrong, whatever that may be-but I love it. And I wouldn't have it any other way. No matter what it is, being among history brings out songs, poems and a feeling of peace that I have never felt surrounded by modern gadgets.

Here is a little peek into what I saw...

Anyone feel like bidding on that silver squash blossom for me? Or the 21 Dodge converted pick-up?

  1. What an amazing collection of beautiful, old things. It's always incredible to think how many stories and secrets they might keep, even more impressive to see that they have been loved, used and are still around today. Here's to timeless things that were built to last!
