Heroes...

With memorial weekend here I've been thinking a lot about all the sacrifices that our service men and women have given for our freedom. As I was walking through the Sacramento airport on my way to Amarillo yesterday, I saw a bookstore and thought I'd drop in just for a second to see if there was ANYTHING I haven't read lately in there (usually, this is not the case!)

There were your usual stacks of People Magazine, US Weekly, and some hub-bub about a celebrity who supposedly gained 5 pounds. (Thank-goodness, most of them could use a good hamburger!)

There was one book which caught my eye that I had heard a lot about, but never had the chance to read. It's called "American Sniper" about Navy Seal with the most documented kills in history, Chris Kyle. I'm sure most of you know his story, as well as the tragic way he passed away-but if you don't I would really encourage you to pick up a copy.

It was one of the most inspiring and interesting books I've ever read, I finished it in two plane rides and by the time I landed in Amarillo was so full of pride for our country I was ready to burst. To know that there are those kind of men in the world who are willing to fight for our freedom, for our country-and for our way of life-and to sacrifice all they have, that is a true hero.

I started thinking about those celebrities in the store. Glossy Magazine covers, airbrushed and talking about the latest scandal in Hollywood, and I wondered to myself "Why?"

Why are these people in the for-front of our media instead of our warriors and heroes like Chris Kyle? Why are the loved ones who lost their lives this week not the ones we are screaming and jumping up and down with excitement to see when they get off a plane?

I hope that this weekend no matter what your plans are (I'll be here in Amarillo totally having the time of my life...hope you can join us!) That we all remember what this weekend is actually about. Remember those who have given their lives for us and our beautiful country. Thank those who are serving. Love them. Appreciate them. Show them. They are true heroes.

Below is a rendition of the National Anthem, there is a little bit of a bronc wreck at the beginning...but wait it out until that's done with! It is my favorite song to sing, and the one thing that will always make me cry. To all of our service men and women out there, past present and future-this is for you.

I love you all, have a safe weekend.

xoxo
