Sisters, sisters....

When Lizzy (my big sister) was 4, she used to stand with her face close to my mothers tummy and sing. She would sing songs about all the things that she wanted to do with her new friend, and all the exciting games that would be played. She would carry on never-ending one-sided conversations and tell stories. For 9 months she watched my mum's tummy grow, and grew more and more excited as time went by....

When I finally arrived, her excitement was almost uncontrollable and much to peoples surprise-was the first person to hold me when I arrived in the world. Before my mother or father, it was my sister who hugged me tight and told me how happy she was that I was finally here, and that we were always going to be best friends.

She was right.

21 years later, she is still my best friend, my hero and constant companion. We've stood beside each other through war, sickness, death and even worse-we've argued very seldom, laughed a lot and have remained throughout the years first and foremost, sisters.

We've cowboyed together, shopped together, cooked together, gotten lost together and huddled under wool blankets in Scotland, America and Ukraine trying to stay warm or offering comfort together.

We've gone through more things than most people could imagine not only as individuals, but as a duo-we've survived more than even I can believe sometimes.

I cherish every moment I've had with her, and cannot wait for the years to come.

Lizzy, you amaze me everyday with your strength, love and spirit.

I still want to be just like you when I grow up.

Sisters till the end...

I know this was a semi-mushy post tonight folks, but I just don't care. Elizabeth inspires me everyday to be more, do more and believe more in myself and my dreams. I can't imagine life without her, and am so amazed and proud of what an incredibly talented, beautiful and kind hearted woman she is.

I love you Lizzy,

xoxo
