Today, my mums and I decided to leave behind all the things we had to do-business, school and lets face it-spring cleaning-and take off for a girl's day out! 

I had a hat fitting with my amazing hat sponsor Kevin Murphy from KJ Murphy's Custom Hattery in Santa Ynez, for a new work hat. I'm really excited about having something to be able to work in that isn't my "on stage" hat... I figure if I'm at a performance and on stage, an old smelly and dust covered work hat isn't something I should be wearing! Now, because of Kevin though-I'llbe rockin a new work hat, the style might surprise a few of you...but I'll leave that as a surprise when it is done! 

Then, it was off to Solvang for a pastry the size of my head (which, let's just face it is of considerable size) and a cup of hot coffee. It was such a treat, and I got to see a bakery that has been around for quite a while that my mums used to go to when she was in highschool! 

As you can tell, we really got into the whole pastry thing-I'm not even sorry! Although my Cowboy Honor jeans might be a bit snug after this day trip! 

I've been just DYING to visit a good museum for a while (I am a total history nerd-I accept this completely-please don't judge!) And have been planning on visiting the Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History, getting to take my time and wander with my mums taking it all in was just wonderful.

I love the history, the depth, the stories and the knowledge that is contained in museums-just waiting to be spilled out for greedy minds to gobble up and learn from...the perfect place to think, ponder and relax. Where reading is encouraged and learning is the most beautiful thing you can long for.

If you haven't been to a good old fashioned museum for a while..here is your sign to go!

I am ashamed to admit that even after the giant pastries-us girl's were craving a cold beer and a tid-bit after our museum crawl. Zipping out to the end of the pier, we caught the sunset with a cold brew in our hands and fresh fish-n-chips. Watching the sailboats and surfers, boaters and tourists we got to giggle and chat to our hearts content.

It was the perfect end to a much needed and really fun day off with not only my mums, but my best friend. Sometimes, it's ok to unplug the computer-ditch the email-forget the homework and just be with family. Remember that each day you get to spend with them is a blessing and a treasure. You won't always get these times, and being able to take advantage of them and appreciate those moments is priceless.
